| So you want to have a self-catering business? | |
Self-catering is a growth industry. As well as demand from overseas, there has been a steady increase in the demand from domestic holidays in the UK, whether it is for the main holiday of the year or a second break. Activity-based holidays, relaxing weekends, off-season breaks and family gatherings have all helped to extend letting periods and create high demand in season and at other times of the year. Properties vary considerably from picture-postcard thatched cottages and modern city centre apartments to more unusual properties, such as converted windmills, stately homes and castles. A self-catering unit can be located almost anywhere, from an isolated setting on the coast, or in the heart of the North York moors, to central London. It can be owner managed or managed by an agency. The importance of location The location of a self-catering property can vary considerably from a wing in your own home, to rural cottages, converted farm outbuildings and city centre apartments. The type of property you own will affect how you manage it and how it affects you and your family. Where is your property located?
