Don't miss the opportunity to be part of a 'voyage of discovery.' Four hundred years ago, on 19th December 1606, 104 men and boys set sail from London and Kent on three ships, the 'Susan Constant', 'Godspeed' and 'Discovery'. Eighteen weeks later, after a hard passage across the Atlantic, they landed in the 'New World' at Cape Henry and later established the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. 2007 sees the 400th anniversary of the founding of what is now the United States of America. To mark this moment in history Britain will be joining our American cousins in commemorating and celebrating with an array of events, exhibitions and festivals. Here is just a small selection of the events that will be taking place: The 'Discovery Tour ' - A reproduction ship of the Discovery will arrive from the USA and tour around the English coastline in the summer of 2007 to tell the story of Jamestown and the early Virginian settlements. These events are to be held at various English ports, and will mirror the 2006 Godspeed Sail up the east coast of the United States. Leeds Castle - Old and new worlds will meet for a fabulous Anglo-American 400th birthday party at Leeds Castle in Kent. In a day packed with music, activities and fun for all ages, the 900-year-old castle will celebrate its long association with the Americas. Are you planning to celebrate America's 400th anniversary? If so, we want to hear from you! Get in touch with details of your event and be part of Jamestown 2007.
