EnglandNet is open to all of Britain’s quality assessed accommodation providers and consolidators (both public and private sector). It is an open marketplace – think of it as being like a High Street with various shops for customers to visit.
Quality assessed businesses are automatically included on VisitBritain’s websites through the National Tourism Product Database, a part of the EnglandNet platform. This is the UK’s biggest database of tourism products, already holding information on over 27,000 quality-assessed accommodation establishments, 7,000 attractions and thousands of events throughout Britain. This is done through VisitBritain’s work with national, regional and local tourism partners and the Quality in Tourism team. Link to information on VisitBritain’s assessed only policy.
The National Tourism Product Database is supported by the ‘polling service’, which integrates with partners’ systems to check the pricing and availability of product from tourism businesses. The service then transfers the user to a partner’s website, allowing the user to complete the booking transaction there.
SME’s
To list or maintain your property record on VisitBritain’s websites;
- you must maintain participation in a quality assurance scheme (e.g. Quality in Tourism), this will automatically include your property in the National Tourism Product Database, which feeds VisitBritain’s websites;
- contact your national, regional or local tourism body to update your details. Contact details can be found here;
- once the national, regional or local tourism body has updated your details, full information will be live online and providing customers with more detail about their product on VisitBritain’s websites and some regional and local tourism websites;
- work with your regional or local tourism partner to keep your details up to date and to keep abreast of other online opportunities;
- we encourage you to consider their unique selling points for your text and provide your regional or local contact with pictures of your property for the website.

National chains
As a member of a quality assurance scheme, national hotel chain properties are automatically listed on VisitBritain’s websites. The records shown on VisitBritain’s websites are collected and managed by the national tourist boards and the English regions and destinations. Full property information is requested annually from individual properties within the national/regional boundaries. To update or amend your records contact your national, regional or local data steward.
Alternatively, national hotel chains which own their properties, can manage their online brand presence and provide their property information direct to VisitBritain’s websites, by undertaking some minor modifications to their systems to connect to EnglandNet.
