From 1 January 2006, VisitBritain will only promote quality-assessed accommodation through its marketing activity. The new strategy for Quality in England is now in place and VisitBritain is stepping up its promotion of the new common standards and the benefits of choosing quality-assured accommodation through its ongoing marketing activities, websites and PR, both international and domestic.

Properties can be quality-assessed by VisitBritain, VisitScotland, Wales Tourist Board, the AA and the RAC. This policy has the full backing of DCMS, and is already applied by many of the English regions, DMOs and local authorities, as well as the Wales Tourist Board and VisitScotland. The new common standards agreed by VB, VS and WTB across the accommodation sectors (including serviced accommodation, self-catering properties and hostels) are now being rolled out progressively. The AA and RAC have also agreed to deliver common standards with VB, VS and WTB for the serviced sector (eg hotels, B and Bs, guest houses etc).
